Prom Pictures

A good lesson in life is to be flexible and take life as it comes. Luckily, I began learning this years ago because none of my shoots this weekend went as planned. I had 3 scheduled, but 2 rescheduled and the other didn't go quite as I thought it should. I took pictures of a high school couple for their prom today and feel they turned out well. However, in this case a better background would have made a world of difference, but it was one of those situations that I had to work with what I was given.

Daniella is a beautiful girl, inside and out, that I have had the pleasure of meeting. A couple of years ago my children fell in love with her when, as her highschool's maskot, she was dressed up in a Razorback costume . She also helped me once with my kids when I had the flu and was too sick to care for them. They get excited each time they see her and I love the look of delight on her face when she sees them. I enjoyed taking her prom pictures today. She was gorgeous in her beautiful orange dress and her date, Dominique was so handsome in his tux. They are a beautiful and photogenic couple.

I have to say that my own children are my favorite subjects. My daughter, Susan, is especially fun because she loves for me to take her pictures and is more than willing to do what I ask. On this particular day, I had a shoot right after church and had to take Susan and the baby with me. While I waited for the family to show up, Susan played nearby and I couldn't resist these shots. I would not recommend taking your children to a shoot. If at all possible, leave the kids at home because they can be a distraction and you need to focus on your clients. Afterall, that's what they're paying your for.

A Fun Shoot

I had a really fun shoot this week. My client was an adorable two year old named Zonner. I didn't know what to expect when I went to the shoot, only that the mother wanted one particular shot that replicated a picture of the boy's father when he was the same age. I got the shot, but also many others that I couldn't resist sharing with the mom and putting on my site. I used a wall in the house that had a beautiful faux finish and lots of natural light coming from a nearby window. I set my camera on manual with no flash and just clicked away. Here are 3 of the pictures. To see more, check out http://www.babyfeetphotography.com/.

The Big Announcement

I am so happy to announce that I have finally started my own photography business, babyfeet photography. This has been a dream of mine for some time. I have to say, though, it's all happened very quickly. Feel free to check out my website (http://www.babyfeetphotography.com/). Above is a copy of my promo card. I plan on using these as well as business cards to promote my business and use the pictures as a teaser.

Find Your Style

When I became serious about photography it took me a little while to find what style suited me best as a photographer. I do not have, nor do I want, a studio so I take my pictures on location (i.e., outside or in a clients home). For practice and to get my name out I volunteered to take pictures of friends children and of students in my class. I had a shoot during this time where I posed each of the children and I did not like the pictures at all. The pictures looked fake. I learned from this experience that this was not my style. I began looking at other photographers sites to get ideas and to see what kind of shots I liked. For my next shoot, I simply followed a little boy around and took pictures of him as he played. We started inside, in his bedroom where all of his toys were. We ended up going on a walk to an alley way, which was a short distance from his house. This session resulted in the some of the best pictures I had ever taken. I learned that my style is photojournalistic. This is where "the photographer attempts to produce truthful, objective, and usually candid photography of a particular subject, most often pictures of people (Wikipedia)." Above is a collection of 3 pictures from that shoot.
